Utah Jazz spank the Philadelphia 76ers

Carlos Boozer had 24 points and 12 rebounds, Wesley Matthews had a career-high 16 points and the short-handed Jazz ran past the 76ers 112-90.

The Jazz had only nine players suited up for this game after star point guard Deron Williams was excused from the team to attend to a family medical issue. Williams may rejoin the Jazz for Saturday’s game at Cleveland, which is the conclusion of a four-game road trip.

Utah didn’t have the likes of Matt Harpring, Ronnie Price, Kyle Korver and C.J. Miles.

Rookie guards Wesley Matthews and Eric Maynor were each rewarded with their first career start. Matthews (16 points) and Maynor (13 points, 11 assists) sure took advantage of the situation.

The 76ers were led in the game by Thaddeus Young, who had 17 points in the game.

Mavericks beat T-Wolves

Dirk Nowitzki scored 15 of his 20 points in a tense third quarter and also grabbed 11 rebounds to lead the Mavericks to a 89-77 victory against the Timberwolves. The Mavericks announced that swingman Josh Howard will be out indefinitely while he continues to rehab his surgically repaired left ankle.

The Strugglling Timberwolves, who are now 1-10 for the season were led in the game by Johnny Flynn who had only 11 points in the game. The Wolves shot only 32.6% in the game and Minnesota fans have got to be wondering how much worse it can get for them.

Suns are completely cold as Lakers easily beat Phoenix

Most expect the Los Angeles Lakers to be the best team in the West but the way the Phoenix Suns have been playing lateley, some have thought that maybe the Phoenix Suns are the team to look at. The champions welcomed the challenge as the L.A. Lakers and the Phoenix Suns went head to head. It was not even a contest as the Lakers ran away with a 121-102 victory.

After returning to the lineup, Andrew Bynum scored 26 points and pulled down 15 rebounds in the game. Kobe Bryant led the Lakers with 29 points in the game.

The Suns had a terrible game as the Lakers killed them in the paint. The Suns shot only 36.5% in the game and this game was one that they will no doubt wasnt to forget about. Phoenix was led by Jared Dudley’s 14 points. Nash was held to 13 points and five assists, well below his league-leading 12.6 per game.

Amar’e Stoudemire struggled his way to eight points on 2-for-15 shooting and Jason Richardson scored just five points on 2-for-9 from the field.

The third quarter proved to be the deciding factor in this game.

After a Grant Hill jumper cut the Suns’ deficit to 65-55, the Lakers answered with a 15-0 run capped by a beautiful alley-oop from Lamar Odom to Bryant, who flushed it down with a reverse, two-handed dunk to give the Lakers an 80-55 lead with 5:38 remaining in the third quarter.

Phoenix did cobble together mini runs, but Los Angeles, who shot 57.6 percent for the game, had an answer every time.

Lebron James and Cavaliers beat Dwayne Wade and the Heat

It was a game where two of the most dominant players in the NBA would go head to head and one of the all time dominant players would contest in. Lebron James versus Dwayne Wade. Shaq of course was by James side batlling against the team that he led to the NBA champiuonship in the past.

Besides Shaq, James had Mo Williams by his side in this game as Mo seemed to be the difference in the game as he scored 25 points to go along with Lebron James 34 points to lead Cleveland over the Heat 111-104. Shaq had 14 points to help the Cavaliers out in the game.

Despite Miami losing the game, Dwayne Wade gave quite a performance himself as he scored 36 points in the game.

Miami’s previously rock-solid defense, which entered the game third in the NBA in points allowed (88.6), second in field goal percentage (.415) and first in 3-point percentage (.257), had a long night. It allowed its season-high point total.

Still, Miami had enough energy to make a light-hearted run in the fourth quarter.

The Heat closed within 103-99 but James’ 3-pointer with 2:41 left gave the Cavaliers a 106-99 lead. Beasley got Miami within 109-102 with a 3-pointer with 1:40 left but it could get no closer because of James.

Eric Dampier has big game to lead Mavericks to victory over the Rockets

The Houston Rockets were playing without their two all star players Yao Ming and Tracy McGrady but there was a certain Dallas big man in the game for Dallas who is not an All-Star but sure played like he was one. The guy didn’t even get his name imprinted on the All-Star ballot forms. Heck, he would sure need to get a pile of write in votes if he were chosen to play on the All-Star game. By the way it’s not going to happen, then again we’ve seen stranger things happen before.

The night belonged to the Dallas center Erick Dampier as he pulled down a season-high 20 rebounds, scored 14 points on 6-for-6 shooting and blocked three shots as the Mavericks stormed back from a 17-point deficit in a 121-103 victory over the Rockets. It was the third double-double for Dampier this season and the eighth 20-rebound game of his 14-year career, his first since grabbing 26 against Philadelphia on Jan. 29, 2005. He ranks among the league leaders in boards and blocked shots. In Dampier’s six seasons with Dallas, the Mavericks are 35-11 when he records a double-double and 70-19 when he scores at least 10 points. To the Mavericks, he is an All-Star that can have quite an impact on them winning or losing.

Terry finished with a game-high 24 points off the bench for Dallas. Nowitzki added 23 points, while Barea (14), Howard (14) and Marion (10) all scored in double figures. Kidd dished out 11 assists. The Mavericks shot 55.4 percent, including 58.3 percent (7-for-12) from 3-point range, and were 22-23 from the free throw line.

For the Houston Rockets, Aaron Brooks scored in double figures with 22 points, 19 in the first half. It was his seventh straight double-digit effort, matching a career-long streak set last March. Luis Scola was the only other Houston starter in double figures with 12. Carl Landry (19), David Andersen (13) and Kyle Lowry (12) continue to provide scoring punch off the bench.

Kings win third in a row - beat Thunder despite Kevin Durant scoring 37 points

The Kings won their third game in a row as they beat the Thunder 101-98 despite Kevin Durant scoring 37 points in the game for Oklahoma City.

Jason Thompson (21 points) and Tyreke Evans (20 points, 8 rebounds, 8 assist) led the way for the Kings who are now 4-4 this young NBA season. Evans is averaging 25 points per game during Sacramento’s three-game winning streak, continuing to increase his trips to the free throw line as he gets in the lane.

Durant’s scoring in the game came a lot at the free throw line, were the guard went a perfect 18-18. The Thunder are now 3-4 so far this season.

Portland Trailblazers down Memphis Grizzlies 93-79

The Portland Trailblazers beat the Memphis Grizzlies 93-79 leading to the Grizzlies sixth straight loss, while the Blazers have now won three in a row.

The Grizzlies led 54-53 midway through the third quarter before Portland used a 16-3 run to go up 69-57. The Grizzlied pulled to within 69-63 early in the fourth quarter before Portland used a 12-4 run to help defeat the Grizzlies for the eighth consecutive time.

Allen Iverson was once again not with the Grizzlies as he has taken time off for personal reasons, though there are many speculations that Iverson is not happy at the role that Memphis has him in.

Chauncey Billups helps Nuggets dodge bullet as Denver beats the Chicago Bulls

The Nuggets were on the verge of losing their third game in a row but veteran point guard Chauncey Billups rescued his team by sinking a free throw with 0.6 seconds left in the game as Denver won the game 90-89 against the Chicago Bulls.

Billups had 17 points in the game for the Nuggets and Carmelo Anthony had 20 points which is below what were used of seeing Anthony score.

Denver’s production was enough though to out last Chicago’s Joakim Noah’s 21 rebounds, Rose’s 22 points, and Deng’s 21 points. It was the Bulls first home loss of the season as they are now 4-3 overall for the season.
